Summer Essentials: No Season Needed

My mother’s time is spring and summer, while my husband’s time is autumn and winter. What is left for me? Persephone, goddess of the harvest, spends half the year with her husband, king of the dead, and the other half with her mother on earth. This arrangement has been in place for nine thousand years, ever since the deal was struck. However, when she emerges this spring, things are different. The rains are relentless, crops are failing or growing out of season, there are people trying to build a road through the woods, and her mother seems powerless to stop them. The natural world is changing rapidly, and even the gods are struggling to maintain control.

As Demeter tries to regain her powers and fend off her daughter’s husband, who is determined to keep her underground permanently, Persephone experiences a newfound sense of freedom. Joining a group of protestors, she sees the world from a different perspective for the first time. High up in the treetops with activist Snow, Persephone realizes that she has choices to make for herself. But how will these choices impact her mother, her husband, and the new life growing inside of her?

No Season but the Summer reimagines a classic myth, exploring what happens when our oldest stories no longer hold true and the rules have changed. At its core, it is a story about making choices and the consequences that come with them.
